‘Accepting Each Moment’

I’m not normally an anxious person – but recently – because of health issues that I am facing – I realised that I was becoming anxious – and stressed.

As I sat quietly meditating – I became conscious of the need to simply relax – and accept the situation for what it was.

I was reminded of the ‘serenity prayer’ –

“Seek the serenity to accept the things you cannot change – the courage to change the things you can – and the wisdom to know the difference”.

Accepting the reality of my situation – of the things I cannot change – isn’t about giving up – but simply acknowledging what is happening – and working with it – and not against it.

Or – as this quote says – “Accept – then act. Whatever the present moment contains – accept it – as if you had chosen it. Always work with it – not against it – this will miraculously transform your whole life”

It was surprising what a difference this attitude made – learning to accept – even the things that I don’t like. For of course – it’s easy to accept the things that are going right – but much harder – when you don’t like it!

Relaxing – and accepting – is so much better for me – than when I get anxious – or resist.

Resistance just leads to stress.

I like the advise here – “That which we resist – persists. To overcome resistance requires acceptance. To find acceptance – requires surrender. That which is – simply – is. It’s not good or bad – it just is.”

And of course – that is the reality of life – for everyone – ‘that which is – simply – is’ – and that’s how I am learning to deal with it.

And – I am learning the importance of living in the moment – and accepting those things that are happening – over which I have no control.

It’s my choice – to quote –“You can always choose peace in the present moment – no matter what is going on – or what else you’re feeling”

And – I choose peace.

Blessings – Lois
