The view from our kitchen window allows us to enjoy the changing colours of the seasons – and I particularly love the Cornus – or Dogwood tree – when the leaves turn a beautiful rich red-brown – as they decay – revealing the bare red branches – that will provide us with wonderful colour throughout the winter.

It was as I looked out on this tree – that I recognised how much beauty there is – in the decay that happens all around us.

Walking around a favourite lake nearby – I once again marvelled at the beauty around me -the browns – yellows and golds of those decaying leaves – enhanced by the sun casting it’s glow across the water.

I tried to capture those wonderful colours – the variety of shades on each leaf – but failed to do justice to what I was seeing. However – as I continued to walk – I was constantly surrounded by the glorious decay happening all around.
I found this quote – “Nature flows through us – flows in us – we resonate with the leaves and their changes because they mimic our changes – budding – growing – flourishing – becoming vibrant as their end nears – and slowly floating to the ground – another season passed – and those that see them remark – the leaves are so beautiful – one final masterpiece before leaving this world – there is beauty in ageing”
I love that – and would like to think that as I age – there will be beauty in my ageing and decay – a beauty from within – for – as someone put it – “True beauty is the light in you soul” – Blessings – Lois
There is particular beauty in this season of decay.
