‘You Are What You Eat’

Food has always played a big part in my life – not simply just food itself – but all that goes with it. For many years I cooked meals – not only for the immediate family – but also for larger gatherings. It was something that filled me with joy and fulfilment.

That love of food has passed down – and now – I am the one who enjoys having meals cooked for me – with the same love and passion that I had.

Even though we do eat healthily – recently we have been looking at the balance of the food we consume each day – and it’s been quite an interesting exercise. They do say that – “You are what you eat” – and I guess there’s a lot of truth in that.

I love this quote I came across – it made me smile – “Eating healthy food fills your body with energy and nutrients. Imagine your cells – smiling back at you – and saying – thank you” .

As I was thinking about all this – I was conscious of a thought I had a few days ago.

I realised that I had been following – and listening – to so many Podcasts – that were related to ongoing news in our world. Of course – so much of it is negative – and can be quite disturbing. In doing this – I was neglecting listening to other podcasts that I follow – that contain inspiring conversations – and lift my spirits.

So – although the content itself – is not the problem – the same balance and discernment – that I give to what I eat – needs to be applied to my mind and spirit.

This quote puts it so well I think – “The content we choose to consume – whether words – images – or conversations – has a profound impact on our hearts and minds. Be intentional and discerning – in what you feed your soul”.

I love the reminders – that everyday life throws at me – challenging me to think about all aspects of my life.

Learning from everyday occurrences involves observing the simple moments – and reflecting on them.

There is always something to take from every little experience in life – and so – I decide almost daily to – “Never stop learning – because – life never stops teaching.”

Blessings – Lois
