‘Milestones’

Looking back over our lives I recall so many ‘milestones’ that we have celebrated. As I ponder on some of those milestones – I recognise that most of them have involved the most special people in my life.

Just this week we celebrated one – with our youngest son – as he turned 50! – so many birthdays – so many accomplishments – so many memories – so many milestones that he has overcome and celebrated so far in his life.

For – “Life is not a matter of milestones – but of moments” – it’s those moments that create the milestones – as we come to recognise ‘milestones’ – we are recalling so many ‘moments’ – so many things – that have happened to us – and those moments evoke so many different emotions – as we remember them.

I love this quote – “I think one of life’s great milestones is when a person can look back and be almost as thankful for the setbacks as for the victories”

That is so true – for it’s so often that out of those ‘setbacks’ in our lives – those times when things seem to go so wrong – that we can end up looking back – and seeing that a victory has been accomplished – as we have moved on -creating new moments – which in turn have become new milestones in our lives.

So -as we remember those moments – those small victories – we become aware how important they are – for they are how we achieve the larger milestones – they are how we ‘get there’ and that is so important – for “- it’s not the endgame that matters most – but how you got where you are“.
