There you stood- majestic in your greatness
Rising above all others – claiming the heavens for your own
A beauty was apparent – despite aging scars – the obvious signs of decay
Still you retained the ability to raise my heartfelt admiration
What onslaughts had you endured – I wondered
How many and how fierce the storms you had weathered
Could you count the stars – when you were small and green
Did others tower above you – as now – you hold that high position
What tales you could tell
Yet – just in being – you tell a tale – of endurance – of strength
Of stability amidst such changing surroundings
I’m so glad I met you – listened to what you had to say
And – paused a while – to learn from one so wise
