Walking around a lake the other day I was fascinated looking at the various shapes made by the green algae that had gathered in various areas – some of them reminded me of small islands – of pictures taken from a plane – looking down onto a green world.
I just love imagination!
I’m sure many of you have looked at the clouds in the sky – as I have – and still do – and imagined the different animals – faces – people etc in the shapes those clouds have made.
The trunks and bark of trees often feed my imagination too – with their shapes – knots – grooves etc.
We use our imagination in all sorts of ways.
We may imagine what life would have been like if we had been born in different circumstances – in a different country – or – maybe we imagine ourselves in the future – imagine our children – grandchildren – growing up.
In all my imaginations throughout the years – one thing I’ve come to realise is that I can never understand – or even truly imagine – the God that I have loved and followed – and surely – that’s what faith is all about. It’s not about ‘understanding’ – but believing in what I cannot truly see – maybe imagine – maybe get a glimpse- but not fully know.
I love the words of this song – ‘I can only imagine’ –
I can only imagine what it will be like
When I walk by Your side
I can only imagine what my eyes will see
When Your face is before me
I can only imagine
Surrounded by Your glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for You Jesus
Or in awe of You be stll
Will I stand in Your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
When I hear it – or sing it – it fills me with wonder and awe – that one day – I will see Him – be by His side – but how that will be – what that will be like – I can only imagine.
