‘A Different Approach’

This Christmastime – I have decided to do something different. Anyone that knows me well – will not be surprised – for I do love change – and a challenge.

With the season fast approaching – – I found myself slightly dis-satisfied – with the way I usually ‘do’ – my Christmas cards. It’s something that so often seems to be rushed – with me quickly writing a very short message – instead of taking my time – and approaching each one personally.

A thought came to me – that another way of doing this would involve being a bit creative – and breaking away from the ‘norm’ – for often –“Creativity involves breaking out of expected patterns – in order to look at things in a different way”.

And so – my plan is – to write a personal card – after the rush of the Christmas preparations – in time for the new year – in order to express my gratitude to each one – and to pass on a little update too.

To hopefully bring more meaning – to this wonderful tradition of sending cards – of reminding so many people – that I think about them – and remember how much I appreciate the fact that they have been – and – some still are – a part of my life’s journey.

And that is what I want to do – not simply to do things differently – but to find a greater meaning – by giving more time to each personal greeting.

To quote – “Often finding meaning – is not about doing things differently – it’s about seeing familiar things in new ways”.

I find it interesting to look at familiar things – in new ways. For often – simply because they are familiar they can lose some of their meaning.

The sending of cards at Christmas – is an old custom – and one that I don’t discard – or seek to change – but simply to see through new eyes – recognising that – for me to delay writing my greeting – will give me the opportunity to hopefully give more meaning to it.

As someone once said – “Often – the greatest joy is to be found – not in new things – but in old things – seen through new eyes”.

And I have found that to be so true – in other aspects of my life too – as I have sought to take that different approach – see the familiar in new ways – bring a deeper meaning to the old – as I look with new eyes.

Blessings – Lois
