This week I will be posting my blog on Good Friday – which of course is a very significant day in the Christian calendar.

It’s a day that marks great darkness – and sadness – when Jesus was put to death.

How his followers must have struggled through that time – feeling bewildered – filled with sadness – and possibly even feeling betrayed – by the one who they had trusted to deliver them from the tyranny that they lived through.

We all have those times in our lives – those dark days – when sadness can almost overwhelm us – when things happen that we had not anticipated – and we are left feeling bewildered and hurt – and so often feel that no one else knows – or understands – for I guess – as this quote says – “Everyone is going through something that we cannot see”.

There have been many such times in my life – difficult times – times when I have felt let down – when life has dealt a blow – one that I was not expecting.

But the one thing that has enabled me to keep going – and to keep strong – has been a deep assurance that I have not been left alone – but rather the assurance that – as someone here put it – “You are not alone – you are seen – I am with you – you are not alone”. There has always been one who has walked with me through these times – my faith has helped me to remain strong.

That faith remains today. I may question some of the doctrines – that I was brought up to believe – but the reality of that eternal presence in my life – is something that will never change.

That presence is always with me – part of me – “No coming – no going – no after – no before – I hold you close – I release you to be free – I am in you – and you are in me”

I love that – and those words bring me such freedom – a freedom to ‘be me’ – and at the same time – the security of knowing that I am never alone – even in the dark times – for I am one with him – and he is one with me.

I love how someone put it here – “Having faith is like going into a dark tunnel – and trusting the driver will bring you out on the other side”.

For me – that is the faith that holds fast – no matter what – and in spite of any uncertainties in my life – or even questions that I may have – for – “Faith does not eliminate questions from our minds – but it does enable us to trust God – despite unanswered questions”.

This all gives me a confidence as life goes on – makes it possible for me – to ‘face the dark days’ that may come – with the knowledge that I am never alone.
