‘Reasons To Be Proud’

This week was one that was centred around a very proud moment – as one of my grandsons completed the first stage of his training in the police force – and we attended his Passing Out Ceremony.

As I stood there – feeling so proud – I was reminded of the many times in my life – when I have had some reason to be proud.

Many of those times have been – not what many would see as – ‘great accomplishments’ – but more to do with the way I have witnessed the strength and courage that has been displayed during the challenges of life.

For me – it’s important to recognise – and give credit to – those ‘victories – no matter how small they may be – and I guess it’s good to be challenged to do so – as aptly put here in this quote –

“When was the last time you gave yourself credit for how much you’ve grown – and how far you’ve come. When was the last time you celebrated a win – no matter how small that win may be. When was the last time you told yourself how proud you are – proud of who you are – and what you have achieved”

I admit that I don’t always do that – and yet – when I think of it – it’s even more important for me to do so – as I get older.

As the challenges of life get harder – it’s important for me to celebrate – even the small things.

If I look for it – I am sure that I can always find something that is worth celebrating – and being proud of.

Someone put it like this – “Every step in your journey is something to celebrate – so be proud of all you continue to do “

To recognise – that it’s okay to feel proud of myself – and that’s something I want to pass on – to quote here –

“My dream – isn’t for my lads – (or anyone) – to make me feel proud – it’s for them to feel proud of themselves – standing in rooms I’ve never stepped into – doing things I’ve never dared to try – and speaking with a confidence that never wavers”.

I was so proud this week – and remain proud of so many accomplishments my family have achieved – but – most of all – I am proud of the people they are – and have a quiet confidence that – as they – ‘stand in rooms – I have never stood in’ – and – ‘do things I have never done’ – they will continue life’s journey with – not just a confidence – but a pride in themselves – for who they are.

Blessings – Lois
