I was listening to a podcast the other day – and a short snippet that was said – really encouraged – and inspired me – I quote – ” Sometimes the deepest growth – is when the body weakens – and the soul can finally speak – sometimes we need the weakening of strength – for the inner person to grow”.

I found myself really connecting with those remarks – for – as I find myself learning to adjust to an ailing body – I recognise that – although I have no control over my body – I can focus on my soul and spirit – and that for me is so important – for – “It’s not the strength of the body that counts – but the strength of the spirit”.
Now of course – there are times when my body causes me to struggle – and I don’t find it easy. There are things that I cannot do as I used to – or at least they take me longer to do – but one thing that it has done – is to make me slow down.
Life can be so fast – and as I look back on my life – I know there have been times when it has been difficult to focus on those inner things – that are so important – not always so easy to slow down – but now I recognise that I have that opportunity.

I like the way someone put it here – “Sometimes you need to slow down – remain calm – and simply let life happen. Take a deep breath and focus on the simple important things – you are alive – you are breathing – you are enough as you are – you’ve got this”.
That so encourages me – and reminds me just how much I have to be thankful for – something that I do seek to do each day.
I cannot change what is happening with my body – but I can always look inwards – and change from within – and turn my attention to those things that I can control – the inner being that I am – that needs the time and space to awaken – and to grow.

I’m glad that it’s never too late – and I’ll never be too old – to change from within – and for me – that counts for more than any weakening of my body.
To go back to the words that inspired me – ‘sometimes the deepest growth – is when the body weakens’ – and that encourages me to – “Water my soul – nourish it with care – pamper it – make it feel special – comfort it – allow it to grow with ease”. And – this I can do – whenever – and whatever – and in doing so – allow my soul to speak.
