It’s always interesting to me – how people seem to love to put labels on others – or to put them into boxes. Only the other day – speaking with a friend – she touched on this subject – which gave me food for thought – for my blog post this week.

I have found in my own life – that – because I have been good at something – there have been expectations put upon me – to fit into the idea of who others think I should be.
But – “It’s so important – to never limit yourself – to find yourself in a box” – and so important to be aware of that.

Many times – I have been encouraged to take part in filling in various ‘charts’ – which ask personal questions – in order for you to determine your ‘gifts’ or your ‘strengths’.
Some of these – I have found to be helpful – but I am mindful that – “Defining yourself too narrow – means to put yourself into a box – we – and everything around us – are constantly changing” – and it’s important to always bear that in mind.

I am not the same person I was – even a few years ago – and so don’t ‘fit’ into the same space – I have changed so much – from time to time – changes brought about by many things – experiences that I have gone through – and also by people that I have met – etc.
I like how this quote puts it – “You are free to become multiple versions of yourself in one life time – so stop letting people put you in a box of roles and rules – and expectations”

Yet – it’s not always easy to – ‘break out of the box’ – that you have been put in.
At times there are those who do not understand – who expect me to be the same person that they always thought I was – and it can be hard – and uncomfortable – to step out – and be who I am today.
Life continues to evolve – and if I don’t want to simply settle for what I am now – I need to take heed of this quote – “Do something uncomfortable today – by stepping out of your box. You don’t have to settle for what you are – you get to create who you want to become”.
I love that I get to create who I want to become – to open myself to new things – and I know that by doing so – my life is enriched – and enlarged.

And as I have opened myself to new things – and dared to – ‘break out of my box’ – I have found that spiritually things have changed too – and opened up – for I recognise that – as well as allowing myself to be put into ‘boxes’ – I have tried to put God into one too – and so limited my understanding of Him.
As quoted here – “If you can fit all that God does into your box – then you don’t know Him that well. We must leave room for the wonder and mystery of God – in how He chooses to speak to us”.
I am so glad that I don’t belong in a ‘box’ – I was born to be free – to experience life – in all it’s fulness – and enjoy being the ‘version of me’ – that I am constantly becoming.
Blessings – Lois
