Over the past few days – we have at last seen the much needed rain – descending on the dry ground.
After enjoying weeks of warm and sunny days – being able to tend to my plants – and work in the garden – I am suddenly faced with having to change my plans – and in the process – recognise there is simply nothing that I can do to change the situation.

The worst thing I can do – is to stress about it – to quote –
“One of the biggest causes of stress – is trying to force things to turn out the way you want them to – the truth is – that in life – some things will go your way – and unfortunately others won’t . Rather than trying to force the outcome you want – look at how you can work with things – the way they actually are”.
As I look back on my life – I can recall many times when that has been so true. I have been disappointed – frustrated – and wanted to change the way things were going – yet – the truth of the matter was – that it was out of my control. What I needed to do was to concentrate on what was possible – not lament – on the impossible.

I have not always been good at simply relaxing – and allowing life to take me where it will – or – to just allow the current of life to carry me.
I love the analogy of this quote – “Life is like a river – the way of life is to flow with the current – to turn against it takes effort – but the current will carry you – if you will let it”
The current of life may change the direction of my path – but if – rather than resist it – I chose to ‘go with the flow’ – I simply need to adapt – and – as the river gracefully shapes itself around the rocks in it’s path – I can do the same – without that changing who I am – but maybe taking me in a different direction – if I am willing to allow it to.

Of course – going with the flow does not mean that I just sit back and allow things to happen – as someone put it here – “Going with the flow does not mean you sit back passively – and expect everything to work out. Going with the flow – means you don’t cause yourself stress – by fighting changes that are out of your control”.
So – today – I determine to relax – take each day as it comes – and even if things do not go the way I had planned – or hoped – I will not stress – but allow the river of life to take me where it will.
