‘The Changing Shape Of Dreams’

I’ve had a dream – for the past few years – the dream was to go and visit my youngest brother in Australia – who I have not seen for 9 years.

However – because of the length of the journey – and the physical problems that I have – it seemed as though it was a dream that would never be a reality for me – but – I kept dreaming!

Then – an amazing thing happened. My brother called me on my birthday – and offered to pay for me to travel to Australia to visit – even going as far as to be willing to pay for me to travel business class – knowing how difficult the journey would be for me.

I was over the moon – and began to look into travel plans – but – soon realised that – even with the extra luxury and space – it would prove too much for my body to cope with.

As you can imagine – this was quite a blow – as it seemed as though I was going to have to ‘give up ‘ – on my dream.

A friend of mine reminded me that sometimes dreams – ‘change shape’ – or -as someone else put it – “Sometimes you may have to change paths – on the way to your dream – so learn to be flexible in that aspect – but always keep your dream the constant”

Reflecting on all this – I realised that the dream I had – was not so much to travel to Australia – but rather – to see my brother again.

I needed to – “Be clear about my goal – and be flexible about the process of achieving it” – or – as someone else put it – “If the plan doesn’t work – change the plan – but never the goal”

And so – my brother – understanding my dilemma – and wanting to help me realise my dream – offered to travel to me instead.

A wonderful solution – and although it seemed as though I needed to compromise a part of my dream – that of going to Australia – my – ‘true dream’ – of seeing my brother again – was intact.

A case of a “Compromising FOR my dream – BUT – not compromising ON my dream”.

I am so excited – that my dream will soon be a reality – a dream that has – ‘changed shape’ – without altering the ‘heart’ of the dream.

Blessings – Lois
