‘The Pros And Cons’

It’s been amazing this past week – to be able to share in the wedding of my friend’s daughter – in South Africa – via Social media.

I received so many wonderful photos – and although she has been so busy hosting family and friends – she has given her time each day – to enable me to keep up with all that has been happening.

Social Media – is one of those things that I don’t spend much time pursuing – but I do appreciate certain aspects of it – and agree with this quote – “There are a lot of pros and cons about social media – it’s just how you choose to handle it – and how you have to be prepared for the negatives as well”.

I am well aware of the dangers that are ‘out there’ – and the damage that can be done – especially to the minds of young people.

But that does not mean that I throw it out altogether – I have to learn how to weigh up the ‘pros and cons’ – for in life – “to every disadvantage – there is a corresponding advantage” – I simply need to know how to distinguish between them – and then to be able to make my choices.

The advantages certainly outweighed the disadvantages in this case.

As I continued to ponder – not just on the ‘pros and cons’ of Social Media – but on the ‘pros and cons’ of life itself – I found this apt quote – and although the English is not perfect – I appreciate the sentiment behind it – “Everything has pros and cons in it – even if a rose is so beautiful – it still has thorns in it”

And who of us would forgo a rose – simply because it has those thorns – or as someone else said – “it’s worth getting pricked by a thorn – for a pretty rose”.

Its almost always the case that – pros and cons go together – and – as I have been faced with many choices in my life – I have been aware of that.

But – I have to say – that I am more inclined to choose to see the ‘pros’ – to look at the positives in every situation. I don’t deny that the ‘cons’ are there too – but for me – ‘the rose is worth getting pricked for’.

In choosing to focus on the ‘pros’ – I may not always have made the best choices – but – “Life is all about making choices – always do your best to make the right ones – and always do your best – to learn – from the wrong ones” – and that is what I seek to do.

Blessings – Lois
