This past week – we had the privilege of looking back at the life of my sister in law – a long life – shared by many.

And although it was a sad occasion – it was good to be able to hear so many shared memories of her – and – I love how someone put it here – “Although it’s difficult today – to see beyond the sorrow – may looking back in memory – help comfort you tomorrow”.

And – I am sure that those shared memories were a comfort to many – and they will remain precious – as the family move on.

It was also a time – as these occasions usually are – to catch up with family and friends – many of whom we had not seen for a long time.

As we reminisced – looking back over the years – I was struck by the ways in which our various lives have moved on – and like the thought expressed here – “we move through time – like a man in a rowing boat – looking back – even as we move forward”

For me – it’s important – that I can see how I have changed and moved forward – being able to look back over my life – at the various experiences – the special times – that I shared with so many – that I met again that day – but -at the same time – being happy to be moving on.

“Moving on – is being able to look back – without needing to reach back”

The past – with all it’s memories – will always remain a great part of my life – I would not be who I am – without all the experiences that have come my way – or – the people who have played a big part in my life.

However – the journey of life – continues to move me onwards – even as those – “memories take me back – dreams take me forwards”.

As I myself grow older – life is still here to be lived – and I want to spend that time – living it – in the here and now – continuing to look forward – to see what might be round the corner for me.

Enjoying my many memories – while – at the same time – continuing to dream.
