‘Repotting’

One of the tasks that I set myself this week – was to repot my indoor plants – something that I have intended to do for some time – but just not made the effort to do.

I knew that most of those plants were – ‘pot bound’ – and needed attention – if they were to continue to grow and thrive.

Some of them had simply outgrown their pots – and needed more space.

And so – I set to work – and couldn’t help but recognise the analogy between these plants – and my life – for there are times when I need to create more space – if I am to grow and thrive well.

As someone said – “Outgrowing limiting space – can be part of your growth journey too” – and this is something that I have become more and more aware of over the past months.

I have begun to recognise that – staying in the – ‘same pot’ – can limit the space for my soul to stretch and thrive – as this quote puts it so well – “Sometimes you need to repot yourself in a better environment – so you can finally grow – just like a plant outgrows it’s pot – your soul craves a space where it can stretch and thrive – breathing new air – shedding old habits – trusting the changes – finding the right room to bloom”.

I’m amazed at how my plants have ‘responded’ – to the changes that they have gone through – being uprooted – thinned out – and cut back – probably not in the most professional way either – for I do not own to be very knowledgeable about such things – yet – they continue to grow – giving me so much pleasure.

Life is like that too – often being uncomfortable – when changes happen – when we move away from the ‘safety’ – of the familiar – and can be left feeling uprooted – as space is created for us to grow – in a ‘new pot’ – and ‘fresh soil’.

But – in order to grow and thrive – it’s sometimes necessary – for a repotting to take place – and that can mean that – “Just like repotting – sometimes you need to let go of what’s comfortable – in order to reach you full potential”.

And – when we – ‘breathe that new air’ – and relish the space to stretch and grow – there is something that is freed within us.

I love that – even as my body gets older – there is still that opportunity for me to thrive and grow – to focus – not on the ageing process – but rather to recognise that – age is not always the issue – maybe it’s more of a case that – as someone said – “I’m not ageing – I just need repotting”.

I have so loved the process of repotting those plants – of hopefully allowing them to grow and thrive much better – but apart from that – I have loved comparing the lessons of nature – to my life – for “repotting – is not only for plants – it’s also for human beings”.

And so – I continue to – trust the changes – adjust to the ‘new pot’ – as I make room for my soul to bloom.

Blessings – Lois
