‘The Wind’

The past weekend saw many people suffer – because of Storm Darragh – which brought strong winds and rain to many parts of our country.

I am so thankful that we suffered only minimal damage – but I have to say that the sound of that wind was rather scary – and we were so glad that we could stay warm and safe inside.

The weather is so unpredictable – we can never be sure how it will be from one day to the next – what sort of weather will – ‘blow in’ – depending of course where that wind blows from.

As I thought about that – a quote came to mind – “The wind blows where it wishes – and you hear its sound – but you do not know where it comes from – or where it goes. So it is – with the spirit”

Apparently – in the original language used here – the words used for – ‘wind’ – and – ‘spirit’ – are the same – indicating that the spirit blows where it chooses – and – as with the wind – no one can control it.

I’m discovering more and more – just how true it is – that the things of the spirit are way beyond our control – or understanding – however much we might like to think we have it all figured out.

I found this quote interesting – “Religion gives us forms and shapes for God to fit into – but He constantly proves to be bigger – wider – and deeper than our boxes. Just when we think we’ve figured out where God is – going next – or doing next – the wind – ( or the spirit) – blows somewhere else”.

Rather than finding that ‘scary’ – I find that it simply adds to the uniqueness of life’s journey – unpredictable – yet full of new things to discover – new experiences to walk through.

Or – to put it another way – “You may not know where you’re going – but you know that – so long as you spread your wings – the winds – (the spirit) – will carry you”.

There are of course many facets to the wind – those wild stormy winds – that we experienced last week – and the whispers of the wind – that bring refreshment to the soul.

I do love the wind – when it’s not too wild ! And love the analogy of it being likened to the spirit – gently blowing me along – if I will allow it – to take me where it will.

As someone put it – “Listen to the whispers of the wind – it is wise – and knows where to take you”.

And so – I abandon myself to the – ‘wind’ – to the – ‘spirit’ – choosing to let it blow me where it will – on life’s journey.

Blessings – Lois
