‘Then Suddenly – ‘

What a week it’s been – I was definitely reminded that you never know what will happen from one day to the next. So – the best way I would describe the week is – ‘Then Suddenly’ – for that is how it unfolded.

Life has thrown us many sudden changes over the past years – for as we all know – “Sometimes in life – a sudden situation – a moment in time – alters your whole life – forever changes the road ahead”

The first – ‘sudden happening’ – this past week – occurred as I was walking back from my Saturday morning walk – when – for no apparent reason – my foot became very painful – to the extent that I could neither bend it – nor put my weight on it. I had to phone for help to get home – and although things have improved over the past few days – I am still unable to go on my ‘normal walks’.

I have always loved walking – and many times – when I was younger – would walk for miles – and do remember saying that I needed to enjoy every moment of those walks while I could. As this quote so rightly puts it – “Every situation in life is temporary – so when life is good – make sure you enjoy it fully. And when life is not so good – remember that it will not last forever – and better days are on the way”

However – that was not the only thing that suddenly happened this week. Our son’s car refused to start – as he prepared to go to work. Fortunately – help was at hand – and he was able to get a lift into work – and over the next few days – while the car was at the garage -was able to get lifts backwards and forwards.

There was plenty to be thankful for in the situation.

I have found that I can always find something to be thankful for – whatever unexpected thing may suddenly happen. I so agree with the following – “When some things go wrong – take a moment to be thankful – for the many things that are going right”

Of course – what these episodes simply emphasised again to me – is that life is so uncertain – we don’t know when sudden changes will occur – changes that can suddenly even alter the whole landscape of our lives. “Sometimes you have to accept the fact that certain things will never go back to how they used to be – but – life goes on”. This has definitely been our experience over the past few years.

I am glad to say that the – ‘sudden happenings’ – of the past week are not unsurmountable – even though there have had to be changes made – especially for me at the moment with my feet – but – that is life – “Sometimes in life – everything moves smoothly – and sometimes unexpected things happen. The important thing – is knowing how to turn those problems into solutions”.

I’m working on that – trying to be patient – to adapt – and to realise that – even if I cannot walk as far – at least I can walk a little – potter round the garden – albeit with regular rests with my feet up. There is always a solution to the – ‘then suddenly’ – in my life – if I am willing to find it.

Blessings – Lois
