As preparations for the Christmas season begin – many greetings are sent – and songs sung – all wishing – ‘happy times’ – ‘joy and laughter’ – ‘merriment’ – etc.

Yet – I am more and more aware – of the number of people – for whom this is far from a happy time.

So many battle illness – poverty – grief – loneliness – and for them – such sentiments sometimes only highlight the difficulties that they face.

At such times it’s hard for me to know what I can say – for I sincerely wish for them to know the warmth that this season can bring – in a way that is meaningful for them.

Such sentiments as this greeting puts it – “Sending you love and strength – and unwavering support – this holiday season” – begin to put into words what is in my heart.

That – and a promise to remember them – to hold them in my thoughts – and pray that somewhere – in the midst of all they are going through – they will sense that love – and deep peace – from God himself.

For it is that love that is remembered and celebrated during this season – and wherever my belief system may take me – there is always a deep certainty that I am loved – by God – in such a way that allows me to draw strength and comfort – in the hardest times.

And so – my seasons greeting to all this Christmas time – is – “Let God’s love engulf you this Christmas – and grant you ultimate peace”
