‘Enjoy Today’

This week I decided to make our Christmas cake – thinking that I would of course be making it advance – in readiness for when the festivities began.

However – I came across a recipe that many people had commented on – saying just how great the cake was to eat straight away – and that sparked a thought.

Why not enjoy the cake – now – or at least when I had baked it! We love a good fruit cake – and it really did seem a shame to see it sitting there for a few weeks before we enjoyed it.

There was so much brandy in the recipe – that it didn’t have to be ‘fed’ every couple of weeks to make it moist – and so – the decision was made – and we were so happy that we had decided to do as this quote says and – “Enjoy what you have today – not what you might get tomorrow”. In fact the cake was so delicious that I have a feeling I shall be making another one before the end of the year!

I love this quote I came across – “You should enjoy the present moment – because this is all you have. Create for tomorrow – but live in and for today”

It’s very true that we spend a lot of time ‘waiting’ – and ‘planning’ – and ‘creating for tomorrow’ – and it’s not necessarily wrong to do that – but – we can almost forget to ‘live in the now’ – to be present – and enjoy every moment.

Something that I am becoming more aware of – as the years pass by – is how important it is to – “live in the moment”.

I love this description of ‘living in the moment’ – “Living in the moment means – letting go of the past – and not waiting for the future. It means living your life consciously – aware that each moment you breathe – is a gift”.

‘And so – today – I live for today – letting go of yesterday – with all it’s highs and lows’ – seeking not to be anxious – or stress about plans – or what may happen tomorrow – but simply being grateful for today – for being here – in the ‘now’ – holding tightly to the gift of each moment – and taking hold of it with joy.

Blessings – Lois
